What is Gjoa Teknikk?
Teknikk is Norwegian for technique, connecting Gjoa’s Norwegian roots with a program focused on one of the most important parts of player development: the individual player and the ball.
Gjoa Teknikk provides focused technical training designed to develop ball mastery, 1v1 play, receiving, turning, finishing, and confidence with the ball. With a high number of touches and opportunities to repeat and refine techniques, players are encouraged to become more confident, creative, and effective with the ball at their feet.
Players don’t just learn techniques in isolation. Sessions help players understand when, where, and why to use them, progressing from focused technical work into 1v1 and 2v2 situations and small-sided games. The goal is not simply to learn more skills, but to develop players who can use their technique to solve problems in the game.
Gjoa Teknikk offers dedicated sessions for both Travel Soccer and YDP. Travel Teknikk sessions are exclusively for registered Gjoa Travel Soccer players, while YDP Teknikk sessions are open to all players.

FAQ – Gjoa Teknikk
Who can register for Gjoa Teknikk?
Gjoa Teknikk offers separate sessions for Travel Soccer and YDP. Travel Teknikk sessions are exclusively for registered Gjoa Travel Soccer players. YDP Teknikk sessions are open to all players and do not require a tryout.
What’s the difference between Travel Teknikk and YDP Teknikk?
Both follow the same Teknikk philosophy, with a focus on individual technical development and applying technique in game situations. Sessions are separated so training can be adapted appropriately to the age, experience, and level of each group.
How is Teknikk different from regular team practice?
Technical development is already an important part of Gjoa team training. Team practices, however, also need to cover tactical understanding, team play, decision-making, and game preparation. Teknikk provides additional time specifically focused on the individual player, with more touches, repetition, and opportunities to work in 1v1 and 2v2 situations.
What happens during a typical Teknikk session?
Players begin with focused technical work before progressing into opposed situations and small-sided games. The goal is to give players plenty of repetition while also teaching them when, where, and why to use their technique in the game.
What will players work on?
Topics vary throughout the season and may include ball mastery, dribbling, 1v1 attacking and defending, receiving, turning, running with the ball, finishing, and combination play.
Can we join after the season starts?
Yes, if there’s space. Pricing is automatically prorated after each missed session.
What should my child bring to Teknikk?
- Full water bottle (labeled)
- Age-appropriate, pumped soccer ball (labeled)
- Shin guards
- Appropriate soccer training clothing
- Turf shoes or cleats, depending on the location
What’s the weather and cancellation policy?
Sessions take place rain or shine unless conditions are unsafe. One canceled session is built into the seasonal pricing. If a second session is canceled, we will make every effort to reschedule it. If we are unable to do so, a credit will be provided for that session.
Do you offer sibling discounts?
Yes, a 10% discount is automatically applied when registering a second child.
