Little Vikings & YDP Clinics

Gjøa Clinics
Little Vikings classes are the earliest introduction to organized soccer on the Gjøa Pathway. For girls and boys 3-5 years old, these sessions develop a love for the game through fun and engaging activities while establishing the fundamental skills needed to grow and improve in soccer.
The Youth Development Program (YDP) offers girls and boys ages 6 through 12 the opportunity to improve their game through professional instruction. Gjøa coaches teach ball mastery and technical skills for the first half of each session, then organize scrimmages in a fun and supportive environment.
Little Vikings/YDP are outdoors in Fall and Spring, and indoors in Winter. See the current season below. These clinics are not open to Gjøa Travel Soccer players. For more info about Travel Soccer click here.
“I am the parent of three children, ages 12, 9, and 6. All of them have ‘played the Gjoa way’ since as early as was possible– we’ve been with the club for 6 years. We cannot speak more highly of this experience for our family.”

“My child has been at Gjoa for 5 years now after transferring from another club. For both of us, the philosophy of the club, the quality of coaching staff and operational teams are all fantastic and make it a great experience. They provide really strong development in a supportive environment.”
FAQ – CLINICS
Can we start after the beginning of the season?
Yes, if there is space. The price for MON/TUES/WED classes are prorated at midnight of the Wednesday class. FRI classes are prorated at midnight of the Friday class.
What are the Covid protocols for Clinics?
*No player with Covid-like symptoms should attend class. Parent/guardians should not enter the facility if they have Covid-like symptoms.
*Players who test positive for Covid must isolate. Our protocols may be more or less stringent than others, such as schools, so If positive email john@gjoa.org to discuss our protocols.
*For indoor clinics, we recommend players bring a mask and wear it if in close contact on the sidelines. They are not required.
Can we do more than one class a week?
If available, yes, (some seasons may have only one day a week) but we recommend you consider it carefully because our goal is for kids to learn to love soccer and to avoid burnout. Feel free to ask us about it.
What does my child bring to the clinics?
*Full water bottle, clearly marked with the player’s name
*Pumped age-appropriate ball clearly marked with the player’s name
*Shin Guards and sports clothing: red t-shirt, shorts, long socks
*Turf Shoes or soccer cleats (sneakers are acceptable, but not ideal)
*GK Gloves (Goalkeepers only)
*Mask (recommended)
There are still a few stores around BK that sell balls and shin guards, such as Upper 90 on Atlantic Ave and Leonardo’s on Fifth Ave in Sunset Park.
Can parents watch the clinics?
So that coaches may have the undivided attention of their players, parents must be at a reasonable distance from the field. On the first day of class, the lead coach will point out the designated area for parents. (Some of the youngest Little Vikings players will need a parent/guardian on or near the field.) Gjøa has firm rules around parents not coaching from the sidelines; players learn best when focused on their coaches and not on their parents.
What’s the clinic weather and cancellation policy?
Outdoor clinics happen rain or shine, but the presence of nearby lightning requires that the class be canceled and families must immediately pick up their children. Families MUST have a contingency plan for picking up in a timely way if the class is canceled. If severe weather is expected a class might be canceled via email 1.5 hours ahead of the start time. If a class is canceled, an attempt will be made to make it up, but this isn’t always possible, so one cancellation is built into the pricing. In the unlikely event that a second cancellation cannot be made up, a credit toward a future registration will be applied to each household.
Do you offer discounts for clinics?
There’s a 10% sibling discount given as a household credit toward any future payment upon request – write to register@gjoa.org. Valid only for registrations less than four weeks into the season.
Do you offer financial aid for clinics?
Yes, a limited number of partial scholarships are available. For information about financial aid, please email john@gjoa.org.
