Little Vikings & YDP Clinics

SCHEDULES BELOW!

Little Vikings classes (kids born 2016 – 2019) are the earliest introduction to organized soccer on the Gjøa Pathway. With each session, our Little Vikings develop a love for the game through fun and engaging activities while establishing the fundamental skills needed to grow and improve.

Whether on a path to Travel Soccer or refining their game for success in recreational leagues, the Youth Development Program (YDP) offers girls and boys born 2009-2015 professional instruction to improve their soccer skills. Gjøa coaches teach ball mastery and technical skills for the first half of each session, then organize scrimmages in a fun and supportive environment.

Little Vikings/YDP are outdoors in Fall and Spring, and indoors in Winter. See the current season below. These clinics are not open to Gjøa Travel Soccer players. For more info about Travel Soccer click here.

FAQ – INDOOR CLINICS
Can we start after the beginning of the season?
Yes! The price for ALL clinics prorates automatically on Friday at midnight for the following week.

What are the Covid protocols for Indoor Clinics at Socceroof?
*Socceroof has dozens of open windows in the fields area to provide cross ventilation.
*Effective January 3, 2022, masks are required at all times for all adults and children on and off the field.
*Effective January 3, 2022, every adult 18+ must be fully vaccinated to enter Socceroof, every child 5+ must have at least one dose of an approved vaccine, and as of January 15, 2022, every child 12+ must have two doses of an approved vaccine to enter. Gjøa recommends, and may soon require, an approved booster dose for all who are eligible to receive one.
*Vaccinated adults may wait in the lounge area (NOT in the fields area), and masks are required. (Some Little Vikings players will need a parent or guardian on the field or near the field.)
*No player with Covid-like symptoms should attend class. Parent/guardians should not enter the facility if they have Covid-like symptoms.
*Players exposed to Covid-positive people should follow quarantine protocols. If exposed, email john@gjoa.org to discuss.

Can we do more than one class a week?
If available, yes, but we recommend you consider it carefully because our goal is for kids to learn to love soccer and to avoid burnout.

What does my child bring to the clinics?
*Mask – required
*Full water bottle, clearly marked with the player’s name
*Pumped age-appropriate ball clearly marked with the player’s name
*Sports clothing: red tee shirt, shorts, long socks to cover shin guards. IMPORTANT: players should wear (or pack) an underlayer as there are dozens of open windows for cross ventilation to prevent Covid transmission, so on some days it will be chilly inside and an underlayer will be needed.
*Shin Guards
*Turf Shoes or soccer cleats (sneakers are acceptable, but not ideal)
*GK Gloves (GK’s only)

There are still a few stores around BK that sell balls and shin guards, such as Upper 90 on Atlantic Ave and Leonardo’s on Fifth Ave in Sunset Park.

Can parents watch the clinics?
For the sake of both social distancing and to keep focused on their coach, we prefer that parents wait in the lounge. Some Little Vikings players will need a parent/guardian on or near the field. YDP parent/guardians should stay in the lounge or sit in areas designated by the coaching staff. Gjøa has firm rules around parents not coaching from the sidelines. Kids learn best when focused on their coaches and not on their parents.

What’s the clinic weather and cancellation policy?
Cancellations of indoor clinics due to weather are rare, but they do happen occasionally. We build one possible session cancellation into the pricing of clinics. If two sessions are missed a household credit will be given for one of them.

Do you offer discounts for clinics?
There’s a 10% sibling discount given as a household credit toward any future payment upon request – write to register@gjoa.org. Valid only for registrations made no later than one week into the season.

Do you offer financial aid for clinics?
Yes, we offer a limited number of partial scholarships. For information about financial aid, please email john@gjoa.org.

If you have questions about the program email info@gjoa.org

If you have questions about your registration and/or payment, email register@gjoa.org.
