Youth Soccer Classes at SC Gjøa

SC Gjøa offers soccer classes for ages 3 to 12, led by professional coaches in a fun, supportive environment. Our programs provide different ways for players to learn, develop, and enjoy the game without the commitment of Travel Soccer.

Little Vikings (Ages 3-5)
Little Vikings is the starting point in the Gjøa Development Pathway. Fun, play-based sessions introduce young players to soccer while developing balance, coordination, basic ball control, and confidence with the ball.

Youth Development Program – YDP (Ages 6-12)
YDP provides weekly training for developing players who are not currently playing Travel Soccer. Led by Gjøa’s licensed coaches, sessions combine ball mastery and technical development with small-sided games, helping players build their skills, confidence, and understanding of the game.

Looking for additional technical training? Gjoa Teknikk provides focused training in individual technique, 1v1 play, and applying skills in game situations. Learn more about Gjoa YDP Teknikk.

Game Day Program (Ages 6-12)
Game Day gives players a structured small-sided game experience where they can put their training into practice. Players compete in coached games with referees, rotate through different positions, and develop their decision-making, confidence, and understanding of the game.

FAQ – Clinics & Soccer Classes

Which program is right for my child?

Little Vikings (Ages 3–5)
Our introduction to soccer for our youngest players. Choose Little Vikings if your child is beginning soccer and you want a fun, play-based environment where they can develop coordination, basic ball skills, and confidence.

YDP (Ages 6–12)
Our core development program for players who want regular weekly soccer training without joining a Travel Soccer team. Sessions combine technical development with small-sided games.

YDP Teknikk (Ages 6–12)
Focused technical training with more time dedicated to individual technique, repetition, 1v1 play, and applying those skills in game situations. Players can register for YDP Teknikk on its own or alongside regular YDP. Learn more about Gjoa YDP Teknikk.

Game Day (Ages 6–12)
Our small-sided match program, giving players an opportunity to put what they are learning into practice. Game Day can be taken on its own or combined with YDP and/or YDP Teknikk.

Players ages 6–12 do not have to choose just one program. YDP, YDP Teknikk, and Game Day can be combined depending on how much training and game experience your child wants each week.

Can we join after the season starts?
Yes, if there’s space. Pricing is automatically prorated after each missed session.

Can my child attend more than one class per week?
Yes. Players can attend multiple YDP sessions or combine YDP with YDP Teknikk and Game Day. Available days and sessions vary by season.

Are the classes co-ed or girls-only?
Little Vikings sessions are co-ed. For YDP, we offer both co-ed and girls-only training groups depending on the season and registration numbers. You’ll see the available options during registration. Game Day is currently co-ed, but we will separate by gender if registration numbers allow.

What happens on Game Day?
Players are placed on small-sided teams coached by Gjøa staff and play structured matches with referees. It gives players an opportunity to experience game situations while developing their decision-making, positioning, teamwork, and understanding of the game.

Is Game Day a league?
No. There are no standings or season-long team commitments. Game Day is a weekly small-sided match environment focused on player development and positive game experiences.

What’s the difference between Classes and Travel Soccer?
Classes (Ages 3–12): Development programs with no tryouts required. Players can participate in YDP, YDP Teknikk, and/or Game Day depending on their age and what they are looking for.

Travel Soccer (Ages 6–18+): Competitive league play with a higher level of commitment, running from September through June. Tryouts are required.

What should my child bring to class?

  • Full water bottle (labeled)
  • Age-appropriate, pumped soccer ball (labeled)
  • Shin guards
  • Red training shirt, shorts, and long socks
  • Turf shoes or cleats (sneakers are OK but not ideal)
  • Goalkeeper gloves (optional for goalkeepers)

Can parents watch the sessions?
Yes, but please stay in the designated viewing areas. To help players stay focused, we ask that parents avoid coaching or shouting from the sidelines. Some Little Vikings players may need a parent nearby during class.

What’s the weather and cancellation policy?
Classes take place rain or shine unless conditions are unsafe. One canceled session is built into the seasonal pricing. If a second session is canceled, we will make every effort to reschedule it. If we are unable to do so, a credit will be provided for that session. Families will be notified by email if a session is canceled.

Do you offer sibling discounts?
Yes, a 10% discount is automatically applied when registering a second child.
