SC GJØA TRAVEL SOCCER
SC Gjøa consistently delivers an excellent environment for youth soccer players. Whether you are a young player looking to take your first steps within the game, or an older player looking to play at a college level, we have the philosophy and the curriculum to help you achieve your goals.
At SC Gjøa, the focus is on the individual. Our teams perform well, but we don't look at players as cogs in a machine to serve the team. Instead, we allow each player to express themselves and to play in a variety of positions in order to maximize learning. The end result is a smart, creative and versatile player with a high level of technical ability.
All players are encouraged to want the ball at their feet, and to play attacking, passing soccer that begins with the goalkeeper. Players are encouraged by the coaching staff to take risks and to learn from the game itself. We deliver enjoyable coaching sessions with high repetition of a particular activity, with plenty of time for free play. As the best soccer players in the world grew up playing on the streets, we aim to replicate a street soccer atmosphere within a club framework, rather than the rigid coaching sessions that can be common in modern soccer. We aim to develop a true love of the game that will continue throughout our player's lives.
U7-U8 Travel Soccer (U7-U8)
In order to give our players the best start in their soccer lives, we offer one-hour practices twice a week in the spring and fall seasons with mini-festivals instead of games. Practices run once a week throughout the winter with no competitive play. Here, the players can begin their individual relationship with the ball in a positive, pressure-free environment. With high repetitions of technique disguised within fun games, players become comfortable with the ball while we try to create a lifelong love of soccer!
U9-U19 Travel Soccer
Travel soccer gives the players to bond as part of a team while taking their game to the next level, adding more serious practices and exciting gameplay at the weekends. Players have the chance to test the skills they have been working on within competitive games. Within travel soccer:
Teams will practice twice a week during the spring and fall seasons, with one practice a week guaranteed throughout the winter
Supplementary practices are also offered in the form of goalkeeper clinics and skills clinics
Our boys teams played majority of their games within the 5 boroughs. Our girls teams may have games in Long Island or out of the state
All practices and games will be led by professional and experienced coaches
Players will be added via an open tryout process
Premier soccer is reserved for the players and teams who have that extra level of commitment and desire to improve. Not every age group will necessarily have a premier team, although we hope to grow the program over time. Premier differs from travel soccer in the following ways:
Teams practice three times a week during the spring and fall seasons, with two practices a week guaranteed throughout the winter
Teams may play in premier leagues such as EDP or NPL which will involve games both locally, upstate and out of the state
Potential new players will be invited to team practices after a successful tryout process in order to properly assess them
